Evonik has entered a strategic partnership with the School of Mining at the University of Guanajuato in Mexico. This will use the company’s rhamnolipid biosurfactants platform to develop “next-generation sustainable and lower-toxicity chemical solutions” for mining applications.
The university has long been a centre of excellence in mining, going back hundreds of years to when European colonists were searching for precious metals in the region. Evonik itself has been supplying speciality chemicals for mining, notably in flotation and reverse flotation, and was the first company to develop an industrial-scale process for sustainable biosurfactants.
