Solvay to recycle rare earths

Solvay has agreed to source mixed rare earth oxides (rMREOs) recycled from permanent magnets at the Ontario site of Canadian cleantech start-up Cyclic Materials for use in automotive, renewable wind energy and electronics applications at its site in La Rochelle, France (pictured).

Solvay is implementing plans to develop a major hub for rare earth magnets in Europe. In September 2022, it announced plans to expand operations at La Rochelle, France to enter the value chain for rare earth permanent magnets in Europe. The company had already been working to validate its products’ compatibility with Cyclic Materials’ rare earth separation process.
