Italian-based speciality chemicals group Italmatch Chemicals has signed a long-term supply agreement with the Saudi Water Authority (SWA), the body responsible for regulating and overseeing the Saudi water sector. This is part of broader localisation programme in Saudi Arabia that Italmatch developed together with its minority shareholder Dussur, the Saudi Arabian industrial investment company.

The programme includes an investment of up to $500 million to make phosphorus derivatives, including a new facility that is due to be completed by the end of 2027. It should create around 300 jobs and will bring the share of value produced and sourced within Saudi Arabia above 90%. Italmatch already supplies scale inhibitors for desalination, treating approximately 80% of the water generated in Saudi Arabia.
