Clariant has opened a second production line for its Exolit OP brand of halogen-free flame retardants (FRs) at Daya Bay, China. This completes a CHF 100 million investment at the site and, the company said, strengthens its ability “to meet growing demand for more sustainable FR solutions in Asia and globally, particularly in the rapidly expanding e-mobility sector”.
In addition, Clariant has added two new FRs to the range specifically for use with polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) in e-mobility. Exolit OP 1242 (TP) is said to offers exceptional hydrolysis stability, while Exolit OP 1266 (TP) provides a stable comparative tracking index (CTI) of 600 V after extended storage periods. Both meet the UL 94 vertical test with V-0 classification down to a sample thickness of 0.4 mm at dosing levels of 15-20%.
