Lube oil additives and speciality chemicals manufacturer BRB International has reached zero Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse emissions from its operations at Echt, Netherlands. It is now working to reduce supply chain (Scope 3) emissions by securing raw materials based on renewable and recycled feedstock.
This was done by shifting to renewable energy for both electricity and heat, as well as replacing all forklifts with electrical power. The site has also reduced its energy consumption by re-using heat in the system for pre-heating and temperature conditioning of the working area and replacing all lighting with LED
BRB is part of the Specialty Chemicals division of Malaysia’s Petronas Chemicals. The division has set targets for greenhouse gas emissions that in line with the reductions required to keep global warming limited to 1.5°C, as per the Paris Agreement. It is also working towards targets for waste reduction and reducing water consumption in water-stressed areas.
