Wacker Chemie has celebrated the mechanical completion of an expansion of speciality silicones capacities at Zhangjiagang in China. The ‘low three-digit million euro’ investment is the largest single investment in the 15-year history of Zhangjiagang, which is one of its largest fully integrated production sites.

The new complex will ramp up production in the coming months. It will make high-purity functional and non-functional silicone fluids, silicone emulsions and silicone elastomer gels for multiple different applications. Some of its lines will make GMP products for applications in personal care, including silicone elastomer gels that have hitherto only been manufactured in Germany and India.
