A partnership between AkzoNobel and SOS Children’s Villages designed to help fight youth unemployment – through education and renovation training programs – is being expanded to include six new countries. After joining forces earlier this year, the two partners will broaden the program in 2018 to include Argentina, Belgium, China, Pakistan, Russia and India. The collaboration, which was initially launched with a focus on four countries (Brazil, Nigeria, Indonesia and South Africa), is part of AkzoNobel’s Let’s Colour initiative, run by brands such as Dulux, Coral and Flexa.

India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas organized a consultative workshop on New National Policy on Biofuels & Pradhan Mantri Ji- Van Yojana (VGF for 2nd Generation Ethanol Bio Refineries), to invite suggestions for a suitable biofuels roadmap. The workshop was organized as the government is promoting biofuels with an objective to reduce dependency on import of crude oil, savings in foreign exchange, provide better remuneration for the farmers and address growing environment concerns in the light of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Commitment at COP 21. The Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan said that 1-G and 2-G Ethanol, Biodiesel, MSW to Fuel and Bio-CNG, together with Methanol(DME), have huge potential in augmenting economic growth, generating employment and doubling farmers’ income. He further said that this will be instrumental in achieving the target of 10% import reduction by 2022 set by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) will relocate from Canary Warf, London to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The European Medicine's Agency is to begin working immediately with the Dutch government to ensure a successful move by the end of March 2019. This decision was taken on 21st November by the EU 27 Member States in the margins of the General Affairs Council (Article 50). The Agency now has just over 16 months to prepare for the move and take up its operations in Amsterdam by 30th March 2019.

Wacker Chemie AG is expanding its range of services in Turkey with its official opening of a technical centre for construction, textile and consumer-care applications in Istanbul. The technical facility serves as an application and test laboratory for polymeric binders and silicones needed in the region’s construction, textile, household and cosmetics industries. This new technical centre is Wacker’s response to Turkey’s sustained economic growth. “Our customers’ rising sales volumes are being joined by higher quality and service requirements, which we are now even better able to meet with our new local test facility,” said Executive Board Member Auguste Willems. The region’s construction industry, in particular, is experiencing an upturn, resulting in a growing need for advice.
Croda International, who create, make and sell innovative and sustainable speciality chemicals, has announced the opening of their Centre of Innovation for Formulation Science at the University of Liverpool’s new Materials Innovation Factory (MIF).
