Songwon adds DOTO, downgrades DBTO

Move comes in response to REACH restrictions

Korea’s Songwon Industrial Group, a maker of organotin catalysts, intermediate, heat and stabilisers and other additives for plastics, plans to expand di-n-octyltin oxide capacity at its Ulsan site by mid-2013, with further expansions to come later as market demand dictates. It is also reducing di-n-butyltin oxide capacity at the same time.

The company said that this was the direct result of REACH and other global environmental regulations leading to an increasingly rapid replacement of butyltin compounds, especially in the European market. It anticipates that, wherever possible, these will be replaced by octyltin compounds by 2015, hence the switch. Songwon also makes methyltin compounds.
