Eastman joins NC State for R&D

Agreement fosters mutual research support

Eastman Chemical has signed an agreement with North Carolina State University (NC State) to conduct what it calls “joint cutting-edge research in chemistry, materials science and other scientific disciplines”. As part of this, it will provide $10 million over six years to support the partnership and establish the Eastman Innovation Centre laboratory in the Partners II building on NC State’s Centennial Campus. This should be open in 2013.

Under the deal, visiting Eastman scientists and NC State researchers will be able to work in each other’s laboratories and NC State students are also expected to take part. The partners have pre-established cost and IP arrangements, which they said should make the collaborative process more straightforward. In addition, NC State has created one central point of contact for Eastman to coordinate activities with both academic and administrative units.
