Brenntag buys Treat-Em-Rite, completes ISM/Salkat deal
Additional buys in US and Australia widen market lead
Brenntag, the world’s largest chemical distribution companied, has acquired Treat-Em-Rite (TER), a Texan distributor for the oil and gas sector which had sales of $11.2 million last year. It has also completed the previously announced acquisition of the ISM/Salkat Group in Australia and New Zealand.
TER is based in the Eagle Ford Shale, one of the fastest growing natural gas shale areas in the US, which Brenntag said made it “a great strategic fit, especially from a geographic point of view”. It has been supplying well-treating chemicals and specialised services in South Texas for 25 years. Brenntag also expects cross-selling opportunities with other products from Coastal Chemical, an existing subsidiary of Brenntag North America.
The acquisition of the ISM/Salkat Group, the company added, “significantly expands Brenntag’s market position in Australia and New Zealand and enlarges the existing speciality product portfolio in the region”. ISM/Salkat Group is a speciality chemical distributor with a broad range of products servicing diverse industries. It has sales of about $120 million/year.
