Albemarle opens Korea centre

Labs will support catalysts expansion

Albemarle has officially opened a ‘Research &Operations Centre’ at its facility in Yeosu, Korea. This will add analytical and polymerisation laboratories to support R&D and manufacturing efforts for single-site catalysts and components used in the polymer industry, which Yeosu currently produces at lab- and pilot-scale. It is also expected to generate new business throughout the Asia-Pacific region in anticipation of the commercial plant that should be completed at the site later this year.

Earlier in August, Albemarle's board of directors had approved the expansion of the existing facility at Yeosu to produce Albemarle's PureGrowth products in 2013. These products, including  high purity trimethyl gallium, triethyl gallium  and trimethyl aluminium, are used in metal organic chemical vapour deposition for the manufacture of chips for semiconductors, LEDs and optoelectronic devices.
